Ted E. Palen, PhD, MD, MSPH

Senior Clinician Investigator

Ted E. Palen, PhD, MD, MSPH, is a Senior Clinician Investigator at the Institute for Health Research. His research interests are clinical informatics with a focus on understanding the flow of data from the point-of-care to its use in research, decision support, chronic disease management, and quality of care. He also has a focus on the use of virtual care.

Dr. Palen earned his doctoral degree in chemistry at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1983 and completed his medical degree at the University of Colorado, Denver, in 1993. He completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine in the University of Colorado, Denver where he also obtained a Master of Science in Public Health in 1997. 

Dr. Palen is a retired internist from the Colorado Permanente Medical Group. He is active in several professional associations, including: Treasurer for the Colorado Chapter of the American College of Physicians, member of the Christian Medical and Dental Associations and a Diplomate in Clinical Informatics of the American Board of Preventive Medicine, and a Diplomate in the American Board of Internal Medicine.
