Our Investigators Elizabeth A. Bayliss, MD, MSPH, is a clinician investigator and family physician as well as Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado at Denver Health Sciences Center. She is interested in investigating processes of care for persons with multiple chronic medical conditions with an emphasis on identifying and addressing barriers to medical self-care in this population. Arne L. Beck, PhD, is the Director of Quality Improvement and Strategic Research of the Institute for Health Research and his areas of research include mental health services, geriatrics, and advancements in health care innovation. Contact Dr. Beck
James W. Dearing, PhD, is a senior scientist with the Institute for Health Research. He studies the diffusion of innovations, with emphasis on intervention design to accelerate the spread of evidence-based knowledge, practices, programs, and policies. His research concerns advice networks among health practitioners, eHealth portrayals of innovations, and the adaptation of innovations in organizations. Contact Dr. Dearing
Heather Spencer Feigelson, PhD, MPH, is a cancer epidemiologist with expertise in genetic susceptibiliy and genomics. Much of her research focuses on genetic susceptiblity to breast and prostate cancer, including genome-wide association. In addition, she has published several studies examining the influence of overweight and obesity on breast cancer. Her interests include cancer survivorship, and lifestyle factors such as use of hormone theray on risk of cancer. She is active in the Cancer Research Network (CRN), a consortium of research organizations affiliated with nonprofit integrated healthcare delivery systems and the National Cancer Institute. She holds faculty appointments at both the University of Southern California and Emory University Rollins School of Public Health.
Jason Glanz, PhD, is an epidemiologist and investigator in the Institute for Health Research. He is also an Assistant Professor of epidemiology in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics, University of Colorado at Denver Health Sciences Center. Dr. Glanz’s research focuses on vaccine safety and vaccine acceptance/refusal. Dr. Glanz is a co-principal investigator for the Vaccine Safety Datalink, a national CDC-funded project that examines the safety of vaccines. He is also the principal investigator for a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases-funded project that studies the risks associated with parents who refuse immunizations for their children. Russ Glasgow, PhD, is a Behavioral Scientist specializing in the design and evaluation of practical and generalizable behavior change Interventions, especially using interactive technologies, for use in health care, worksite, and community settings. He and his collaborators have developed and applied the RE-AIM framework for the planning and evaluation of programs intended to translate into practice. See re-aim.org. Contact Dr. Glasgow
Ted E. Palen, PhD, MD, MSPH, is a clinical investigator and practicing internist. He is interested in clinical informatics with an emphasis on understanding the flow of data from the point-of-care to its collection and use in research, chronic disease management, and quality of patient care. David W. Price, MD, is the Director of Education for the Colorado Permanente Medical Group, the clinical lead for continuing education and depression for Kaiser Permanente's Care Management Institute, a member of the Kaiser Permanente of Colorado's Innovation and Knowledge Management teams, a family physician, and clinician researcher in the Institute for Health Research. His research focuses on mental health issues in primary care and the effectiveness of educational interventions. Contact Dr. Price
Marsha A. Raebel, PharmD, BCPS, FCCP, is an investigator and the Pharmacotherapy Research Manager at the Institute for Health Research. Dr. Raebel's research is in patient safety and pharmacoepidemiology, specifically focusing on reducing medication and laboratory monitoring errors in the outpatient setting and on drug adverse event surveillance. She is a collaborating investigator in the HMO Research Network Center for Education and Research in Therapeutics (CERTs). Contact Dr. Raebel
Debra P. Ritzwoller, PhD, is an economist and a health services researcher with fields in Labor Economics and Public Finance. Much of her research focuses on the economic burden of chronic diseases, including cancer and diabetes. In addition, she is working on several projects that examine the costs and cost effectiveness of behavioral interventions. She currently serves as the site principal investigator (PI) for the Cancer Research Network (CRN), a consortium of research organizations affiliated with nonprofit integrated healthcare delivery systems and the National Cancer Institute. She has published studies related to the uninsured, disease management interventions, vaccine effectiveness, public health surveillance systems, physician compensation, comorbidities, cost estimation and cost-effectiveness. John Steiner, MD MPH, is the Senior Director of IHR as well as a professor of general internal medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is currentl the chairman of the Health Systems Research study section for the Agency for healthcare Research and Quality. His research interests include access to care, health disparities, prevention of cardiovascular disease, treatment adherence and cancer surviorship. Contact Dr. Steiner
Stanley Xu, PhD, is the Head of Biostatistics at the Institute for Health Research and Affiliated Assistant Professor of Biometrics in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics at the University of Colorado at Denver Health Sciences Center. He is responsible for developing analytic strategies for a variety of research problems in health outcomes and health services research and overseeing work of analytic staff.
